Building upon its growing array of digital training tools for athletes, Nike (NYSE:NKE) today announced the availability of its new Nike+ GPS App on the App Store. The app is engineered to operate seamlessly between GPS and an accelerometer for an accurate, motivating and entertaining runner’s tool.

The new Nike+ GPS App allows runners to use their iPhone to visually map every run while tracking pace, distance, time and calories-burned as well as stay motivated with instant feedback during and after each run from athletes like Paula Radcliffe and Lance Armstrong, and comedian Tracy Morgan. The app also connects runners around the world or just down the street through www.nikeplus.com, the largest running community in the world with more than 3 million members.

“We are so excited to introduce the true “Runner’s App,” for iPhone combining the dynamic power and community of Nike+ with the user-friendly functionality of GPS and accelerometry,” said Stefan Olander, VP, Nike Digital Sport. “We will continue to evolve the digital options we provide to runners so that their running experience is always unique and inspired.”

The Nike+ GPS app for iPhone allows runners to:

Run Anywhere: From indoor to outdoor, track to treadmill, this new app combines the power of GPS technology with an accelerometer to map and track a run from anywhere. Even if the GPS signal is not available, the accelerometer will allow the user to continue to track pace, distance, time and calories-burned.

Map Your Runs: GPS technology allows runners to keep track all of their routes including a breakdown of pace and distance at different points during a run. Runners can even tap the screen during a run to see their current location.

Challenge Yourself: The “Challenge Me” feature allows runners to challenge themselves to run farther, faster, or longer than a previous run already logged. The app will also track run history to be able to personalize challenges.

Stay Connected: Runners can wirelessly connect with www.nikeplus.com after each run to instantly save the run and share it with friends via the site, Twitter, or Facebook. In addition, they can view their progress on goals, participate in running challenges and download coaching programs.

Stay Motivated: Runners receive motivating messages from top athletes and celebrities when specific customized goals are achieved, challenges are won, or when a personal best is achieved. Runners can also tap the iPhone screen to receive in-run feedback.

The Nike+ GPS App is available for $1.99 from the App Store on iPhone and iPod touch at www.itunes.com/appstore. The Nike+ GPS App is compatible with the iPhone and iPod touch although the app will function only through accelometer technology on the iPod touch.

Since the 2006 launch of Nike+ in partnership with Apple, a variety of Nike+ enabled devices have been introduced to help runners reach their full potential including the Nike+ iPod SportKit for iPod nano and iPod touch for runners who enjoy training with music, the Nike+ SportBand for runners who prefer not to run with music, the Nike+ Heart Rate Monitor, and now the new Nike+ GPS App for use with the iPhone.

UAAP - Nike Apparel

Author: boni  //  Category: Industry News

In line with its recent ‘New Breed, New Game, New Legacy’ basketball campaign, Nike continues to ignite school spirit with the release of their University Athletic Association of the Philippines (UAAP) apparel collection. The collection consists of game jackets, jerseys, shorts and t-shirts as showcased during on and off court performances by the Ateneo Blue Eagles and FEU Tamaraws. Worn by the likes of Blue Eagles Forward Nico Salva and Tamaraw Forward Aldrech Ramos, the replica game jerseys boast of a technical burn-out mesh fabric for increased ventilation and aesthetic. This performance-enhancing technology helps reduce the fabric weight to help the athletes drive their game further without weighing them down.

“Nike recognizes the intensity and passion of young athletes and basketball enthusiasts during collegiate basketball season,” said Mae Dichupa, Nike Philippines Country Marketing Manager. “Our UAAP apparel collection aims to deliver the best basketball performance technology while boosting school pride and driving school spirit for an unforgettable basketball experience.”

The UAAP apparel collection is now available in select Nike stores for UAAP fans and basketball enthusiasts alike. The jerseys retail for P1,895, shorts P1,895, the jackets for P3,295 and the fan tees at P1,095.

Don’t miss this chance to wear your school pride as your teams make their way to the play-offs!
